Bicycles in photography

Okay admit it. We all have an unnatural obsession with photographing certain subjects.
But really, what photographer doesn’t?

Over the years, since photography began, bicycles have been a favourite subject or prop to photograph. They make great subject matter and you can usually find something interesting about them.

We wait for just the right person to pass by that doorway, or a bird to land on the bike handlebars, or maybe a bike with flowers and/or shopping in a handlebar basket to complete the scene.

Bikes make great shadows.

People riding bikes make great panning subjects. Follow the sport of bicycles and like me, hope that you may get at least one good image as the cyclist whooshes past your lens.

The world is your oyster when have a bike to photograph.

So of course, on 1x we have many great images of bicycles, proving that we all love bike images and which might get you motivated to go out there and add to the collection. As it is the start of a long cold winter in my part of the world, and if you long for spring as I do, maybe this will give you a taste of what we can all do in the winter months.

So let’s get our cameras out and keep the great images coming.
Bikes are a great subject for the long winter ahead and also when the summer comes around again.
