Landscape images are one of the most popular categories in photography, not only on 1x, but everywhere. So choosing one from so many superb images for this weeks PoTW was difficult.
Some say all you need for a great landscape image is to go to a remote and dramatic part of the world and then simply point your camera at it. While there is some truth in that, it is in no way ever as simple.
And in fact, one of the most expensive landscape images ever sold was anything but dramatic in that sense. Rhine 11 by Andreas Gursky, sold for $4.3 million in 1999. Interestingly, it was also manipulated with parts of the image cloned out, something the purists may find an anathema.
This weeks PoTW admittedly is from a dramatic location.
But the photographer Rodrigo Núñez Buj has also added something just a little bit different, a touch of whimsey, to his composition of an extraordinary landscape.
