We have brought back the old awards system with a few new tweaks to determine the order in the list of top members. The idea is to encourage activity and communication, which makes 1x more fun and alive, and to show appreciation for everyone who is contributing to the community. Basically anything you do will increase your points, so there are many different ways to reach the top.
Besides current activity, we want to especially honor long time members who have a lot of published photos, so we have increased the points for published photos a lot to show how important you are to the community (500p per photo).
Here are a few easy things you can do to climb a lot faster:
• Write tutorials, you can write tutorials for all your published photos (2000p per tutorial).
• Fill in complete information about published photos, camera info, description and location (200p per photo).
• Make your published photos available as prints in photo directory (100p per photo).
• Upload published photos in high res (100p per photo).
• Write comments in curation (5p for a comment and 50p for an awarded comment).
• Vote in curation (1p per vote).
Remeber to click the "Update now" button (which you find by clicking the points below your cover photo in your profile) to update your score!
Remember to update your score by clicking "Update now" in your awards-page in your profile.

Anneke I strongly feel that Critique posts in this new award system are underrated. Since writing an in-depth critique takes a lot of time and effort, I think this deserves to get more than only 10 points per critique - especially when compared with Score Update (also 10 points), which takes only one mouse click. |
Ben Rea i think the idea of the lower points is to hinder members from providing less than meaningful critiques just for points. if they give many more points, you will find a lot of 500px/flickr-esq comments like we see on the FP. However, i agree with you and the solution is a comment rating system just like in member curation. the only change i would request if this were applied to critique is that the comments only be rated by moderators and higher level members. anyway, this would then allow very good critiques to be given extra points. Thanks for pointing that out, Anneke. |
Ariel Ariel Just looked at my points and it says 0p. Is it a glitch or I am getting it wrong? Thought I should point it out. |
Hans Martin Doelz CREW Click on the "0p"-field. It will appear on the screen "You have been awarded 0 points for activity on the site." Right from that you will find a field "update now". Click there and your score will be updated. |
Ariel Ariel Thank you Hans, that works! :-) |
Thomas Herren Furthermore, I think there is an inaccuracy in my awards. I have been awarded 2'000 (+ 1'000) points for an approved tutorial. But I do not recall to have written one on 1x. |
Ralf Stelander FOUNDER We will double check that, sorry about any trouble. |
Thomas Herren Hmm.., I simply don't care about how much points I am awarded. But I do care about learning from others from watching their pictures and through discussions in topical galleries. I also care about contributing in the same discussions when my limited time allows it. And I particularely care about meeting people with a similar attitude, and about discussing technical or philosophical aspects of photography. I don't think that I will consider contributions from members who only aspire for high awards. |
Ralf Stelander FOUNDER Thanks for the feedback, the idea with the awards system is to encourage such activity as you describe and give recognition to people who contribute a lot. Learning from others is exactly what 1x is about and will be even more in the future. |
Hans Martin Doelz CREW Now the award system seems to be more balanced compared to the situation after the first relaunch. Especially the rising from 100 over 200 to now 500 points per published photo (remember that I proposed 1.000 in an earlier blog-post) honors the long time members with lots of published photos. I thinks it's quite ok now. Thanks to the guys who decided to revise the system ! |
Ralf Stelander FOUNDER Glad you like it and thanks for the feedback, we will consider raising the points for published photos even more. |
JAE I agree with this. The new system encourages participation all around the site, which is good. |
Greg Forcey Great job with the revised reward system. I think this will encourage a lot more participation in more areas of the site, the having the ranking based solely on curation. |
Ralf Stelander FOUNDER Glad to hear you enjoy it and find it more balanced. |
Bobby Kostadinov This revised system seems a lot better. Glad you're taking feedback from the community into consideration. Good job. |
Ralf Stelander FOUNDER Feedback from the community is what makes this site better! |
